Object Permanence
“This exhibition emerged from a shift in my practice catalyzed by the quiet disappearance of a semi-essential studio object. What begins as a minor inconvenience gradually snowballs into a structural, conceptual, and existential pivot. Through the detritus of bureaucracy, passive-aggressive signage, memory, and infrastructural humor, Object Permanence critiques the fragility of artistic ecosystems and the latent violence of institutional ‘maintenance.’”
The espresso machine, though absent, remains the most present object in the room.
“Object Permanence” examines the fleeting nature of presence and utility in contemporary art practice. At its core, the show questions the politics of absence — what happens when the infrastructure of thought is quietly removed?
The exhibition features found objects, modified appliances, administrative correspondences, and borrowed theories. It explores the role of minor disruptions in shaping major conceptual shifts, and the delicate threshold between hospitality and hostility within institutional frameworks.
Inspired by artists like Joseph Beuys, Rirkrit Tiravanija, and Mierle Laderman Ukeles, the show repositions everyday functionality as critical gesture. It also includes reflections on post-relational aesthetics, the aesthetics of bureaucracy, and the affective power of caffeine.
