STATEMENT

September 25, 2025 — Bergen Kunsthall Project was awarded a grant from the Fritt Ord Foundation. This marks the second time the project has received Fritt Ord’s support, affirming its valuable role in perpetuating dialogue on artistic freedom and institutional critique.

First exhibited in April 2025, Bergen Kunsthall Project has grown into a living social sculpture—a curated, artist-run platform confronting soft censorship and artistic silencing. With renewed funding, the project will continue pushing forward vital social discussions about freedom of expression, while strengthening its role as a platform for resisting censorship in all its subtle forms.

This support will enable the development of new editorial content, interviews with artists facing institutional suppression, and practical guides for navigating censorship. It will also support website expansion and network-building efforts, fostering alliances with artists and institutions committed to protecting creative freedom.

In a time of increasing pressure on the arts across the Nordics and globally, Fritt Ord’s recognition provides crucial momentum for sustaining critical reflection and editorial resistance. Bergen Kunsthall Project will continue to amplify marginalized voices and defend art as a space of free expression and public accountability.
